NPC[ | ]
Shopkeepers are one of the most important NPC types in the game. They spawn on all floors, and are found in Shops, Malls or next to Vendor Stands. They sell various items like weapons, tools, armor, food, and First Aid Kits. While the items offered by a Shopkeeper are often mundane, they will sometimes sell very rare and powerful items.
Some of them carry Shotguns as a method of self-defense, and they can also be accompanied by Goons. Anger them at your own risk!

Tips and Strategies[ | ]
Playable[ | ]
- How to fight: Shopkeepers are okay at melee combat but truly excel when using guns. Your starting Shotgun will make quick work of most early threats. Don't forget to reload your weapons using Ammo Dispensers.
- How to finish a mission: You can use Art of the Deal to buy keys and/or safe combinations from business owners. Doing so allows you to freely take the item from the store without the owner becoming Hostile. Usually, it isn't worth doing this unless the store contains a mission item you need. Don't forget to loot their Refrigerator, if they have one, before you leave.
- Recommended traits: On the House and Shop Drops are great traits for the Shopkeeper. On the House synergizes well with Art of the Deal, allowing you to have a chance to buy items or weapons off of NPCs for free, while Shop Drops can make other vendors drop items they normally sell when neutralized, allowing you to make more money selling them off.
- Making money isn't hard as a Shopkeeper. The discounts you get with Shrewd Negotiator will quickly add up. The Portable Sell-O-Matic is a money making machine if you take advantage of it. You even get a free item thanks to your Free Item Voucher!
- You get less money when you sell an item with your Portable Sell-O-Matic compared to using a normal Sell-O-Matic. Sell-O-Matic machines give you 50% (75% if hacked) of the item's purchase price when sold, while the Portable Sell-O-Matic only gives 40%. It's recommended to use the regular Sell-O-Matic when possible.
- However, your Portable Sell-O-Matic will never run out of money like the Sell-O-Matic does; unlike other characters, you will never leave items on the floor.
- If you upgrade Shrewd Negotiator to Shrewd Negotiator +, you'll be able to buy items for a lower price and sell the ones you don't want for a higher price than you paid for them.
NPC[ | ]
- While they possess 4 Firearms, Shopkeepers aren't very threatening when unarmed and alone. However, they are strong ranged fighters with Shotguns and dangerous in a group with Goons.
- Unlike other Vendors, Shopkeepers generally wander around their shops instead of remaining behind the counter. They will investigate any noises they hear, and will even run outside to check for the source of the sound, even if it's a wall being punched nearby.
- This can be exploited. If you punch the shop's wall to force the Shopkeeper to run outside, they won't be upset since you didn't break their property and they can still be interacted with. This is useful if you normally wouldn't be welcome in their business; additionally, the Thief can use this to steal the Safe Combination or Items from the Shopkeeper once they have turned around, the Doctor can knock them out, and they can be Possessed by the Shapeshifter.
- Always check which items the Shopkeepers are selling in every level. While they are occasionally just selling trash, they often sell weapons such as Machineguns, healing items like First Aid Kits, tools, or even armor.
