Backstory
"This beast was raised in a science lab and given experimental drugs that made them hyper-intelligent. Lacks the ability to speak English and smells like your Uncle Denny's used toilet brush, but they're super-fast and ridiculously strong. Hates scientists with a burning passion, a sentiment that goes both ways."

The Gorilla is an NPC and playable character.

The Gorilla can be unlocked by freeing any Gorilla NPC from a science lab.

NPC[ | ]

Gorillas can spawn on any level, locked in cages inside science labs or inside of zoos. These Gorillas become loyal to the player once freed and immediately flee the lab. In Park levels, Gorillas spawn wandering around the park or inhabiting a Cave or Cabin; like a human homeowner, these Gorillas become Annoyed at characters if they enter their home, and they become Hostile if they see a gorilla being attacked.

Gorillas can be recruited at no cost by a Gorilla player, with those freed from science labs automatically joining the party. Non-gorillas players need a Translator to talk to them and must pay them a Banana to recruit them.

Gorillas are aligned with each other but Rivals with Scientists, attacking them on sight.

In combat, Gorillas sometimes attempt to use Primal Lunge to do extra damage with their Fists or held weapon.

A Gorilla can also appear inside of a Mall running a store in Downtown and Uptown which sells a single Banana. As with any Gorilla, interacting with them requires a Translator as a non-Gorilla character.

Tips and Strategies[ | ]

Playable[ | ]

  • How to fight: Gorillas have a large amount of health and hit fairly hard, even without weapons. Start fights with Primal Lunge to do as much damage as possible.
  • How to finish missions: Vocally Challenged limits a Gorilla's ability to complete missions without a Translator. Most of the time, they will have to fight or use stealth. However, when it comes to the Gorilla, there is strength in numbers. All gorillas are automatically Loyal to you. Try to have 3 Gorillas in the party when possible.
  • How to unlock: The Gorilla is very easy to unlock. You can just neutralize all of the Scientists and use their key to free the gorilla, or use the Computer and unlock the door. Gorillas don't need to be escorted out of the level or even survive getting out of the lab to provide the unlock, just freed.
  • Science labs are a priority target. The Scientists are a good source of XP, the Gorillas imprisoned inside cost nothing to recruit, and fridges in labs can have Bananas inside.
  • Malodorous keeps Gorillas from buying from most shopkeepers, even with a Translator. Fortunately, Gorillas can still buy Bananas from Loadout-O-Matics.
  • You can remove Malodorous with an Augmentation Booth if you have $900 to spare, when paired with a Translator or removing Vocally Challenged. This allows you to interact with all NPCs normally.
  • Being unable to speak without a translator annoys business owners. As a result, Gorillas are one of the most difficult classes to win an electoral victory with. When going for an electoral victory, killing Scientists and people who are Annoyed at you is recommended.
  • Do note that with the Stubby Fingers Trait, its highly recommended to avoid open areas where NPCs are dangerously armed with melee weapons since you cannot use firearms, try to look for areas where you can bait them to you. Use your speed and health advantage to tank your bullets and dodge bullets.

NPC[ | ]

  • Gorillas are one of the toughest melee fighters, with 4 Endurance, Melee, and Speed. Despite not spawning with weapons, they have Primal Lunge to make up for it, making them strong allies or enemies; especially in large numbers.
    • If you have Gorillas on your side, give them Bananas for healing when possible, as they will heal them for 20 HP due to Banana Lover.
  • Since they only attack in melee, it's best to use ranged Projectile Weaponry against them. However, keep in mind that they have 4 Speed, making it hard to outrun them. If you get into a fight with a Gorilla, it's usually best to just kill them quickly instead of trying to run.
    • Flamethrowers are very effective in pushing them back, preventing them from getting close or using their Primal Lunge attack.
    • Having Kneecapper or a Bear Trap to inflict Slow on them can make fighting them easier; just keep in mind that they can still use Primal Lunge if they get too close.
    • The Paralyzer Trap can help as well, as the effect makes them stay in place.
