Backstory
"The Mobster lives by several guiding principles: Cash is king, family is forever, and dinner is divine. Breaking this balanced trifecta of money, loyalty, and heaping helpings of carbohydrates would make for one cranky criminal. With mayoral power, cash and noodles are guaranteed to flow freely for the Mobster and their clan."

The Mobster a playable character and an NPC who appears in Downtown and Uptown. They wear a black suit and bowler hat, along with a straight red tie.

The Mobster is unlocked by paying an NPC Mobster to rig the Mayoral Election for $500.

Super Special Ability[ | ]

  • $20 per "Shake down" instead of $10; after shaking down 3 business owners this lowers to $10 instead of $5.
  • Increased threat success chance.

NPC[ | ]

In Downtown Mobsters spawn in small groups and patrol the level in these groups, alligned with all other Mobsters. Groups merge if they find each other. Upon seeing a player, there is a once per floor chance that they will attempt to mug them, demanding money, an item, or a Slave. They will follow the targeted player; their presence nearby while attempting to mug the player will prevent teleportation. Running away or ignoring them makes Mobsters within the mugging group Hostile.

If a player is an Assassin, Mobsters may appear in groups of five protecting that player's target. When acting as bodyguards, they will not shake down or mug players even if the target has died, instead roaming the map unorganized.

Mobsters in groups always spawn holding weapons such as Knives (on early floors), Baseball Bats, Shotguns, Machine Guns, and rarely (on later floors) Revolvers.

Mobsters will not mug players they're of Friendly or higher alignment toward. They are less likely to mug players who are Law Enforcement. If a player sticks close to Cops, Mobsters will not mug them; however, the Mobsters will continue following the player and hounding them verbally even near Cops.

In Uptown levels, Mobsters spawn in smaller groups and are mostly seen inside apartments or idly walking through the streets. Unlike Mobsters in Downtown, they won't mug players.

Once per run, Mobsters can be paid $500 to increase your City Electability score by 2. This applies to any Mobster, even followers spawned by a Clone Machine, via Friend Phone when playing as a Mobster, or as bodyguards of Assassin targets.

Tips and Strategies[ | ]

Playable[ | ]

  • How to unlock: While getting to Downtown can be difficult, gathering $500 to influence the mayoral election should not be too hard, especially as a non-weapon-using character such as the Doctor or the Alien. If low on cash, money can be quickly gained by participating in a wrestling match, selling dropped weapons to a Sell-O-Matic, or paying a Hacker to increase odds on a slot machine.
  • How to fight: While Mobsters are strong individually, having a large following helps in the long run. Make sure to give followers effective weapons and to top their health off.
  • Cop debt should be paid off immediately after entering a new level to prevent them from joining mob fights, which thieves and gangsters can cause unexpectedly.
  • Be careful about fighting in population-dense areas where misplaced attacks can easily anger nearby gangs or businesses.
  • On Riot and Zombie disaster levels it’s often advisable to leave mobs positioned at the floor’s start while players scout out and clear areas individually, as followers often anger other NPCs when dealing with other threats.
  • How to finish missions:
  • If a building has a vendor or safe/locked door, shaking down or threatening the vendor or safe/key holder can pacify the complex inhabitants, trivializing the mission. can use use Extortionist and Mugger to complete many missions by shaking down or threatening NPCs for Keys/Safe Combos, pacifying the owners.
  • Out of reach Vendors or Key/Code keepers can sometimes be forced outside by using Cigarettes on the Air Filter and promptly threatened or shaken down.
  • Recommended traits: No In-Fighting, Share the Health, Loneliness Killer and Army of Five are exceptionally good perks for a follower focused build. No In-Fighting is an exceptionally valuable trait for Mobster as it allows him/her to extort business owners without fear of accidentally killing them. Bullet modifiers (besides Big Bullets and Burning Bullets) are good choices as well. Safe in Crowds and Confident in Crowds are excellent choices when having a large following.
  • Having 2 or more Friend Phones on hand for when things do get out of hand is recommended. These can be purchased from Loadout-O-Matics or Cloned at Cloning Machines.
  • Supercops spawn (even in Park) if players don't pay their debt. Unless confident in their ability to fight or evade the Supercops, players should pay off their Cop Debt as soon as the level starts.
  • Upgrade the Extortionist trait as soon as possible, as doubled revenue is extremely helpful in negating or even surpassing the amount lost from Corruption Costs.
  • It's better to shake down smaller businesses such as wandering Drug Dealers, small Banks, and Vendor Stands in the Park rather than more protected ones as they give equal revenue.
  • Business Owners can be shaken down even after becoming hostile by damaging them enough, just make sure not to kill them.
  • When shaking down businesses violently focus on attacking the business owner instead of their Allies, as business owners surrender with their Allies when at low health and do not factor Ally health when deciding if to surrender.
  • Drug dealers in hideouts or factories can give players a opportunity for shakedown; just whittle down their health until they are low.

NPC[ | ]

  • Mobsters wandering as groups in Downtown are constant threats to players they aren't Friendly to. With high stats, they wield weapons such as Machineguns and Shotguns and appear in large groups. Prior to being threatened, players should try to avoid being near Mobsters altogether, and be near a Cop when walking by them. Use a Hypnotizer on the Mobster mugging, or use Cologne to make them all friendly. If confident in one's skills, players can always fight them or ignore them.
  • If being mugged by Mobsters, a well placed Hologram Bigfoot, Haterator, Hypnotizer (used on the mugging NPC), or simply using Cologne is enough to avoid conflict altogether.
    • If conflict cannot be avoided, try to trick mobsters into fights with Cops and bystanders by using them as cover.
      • Staging a Mobster-Versus-Police Battle is a great way to gather weapons, with participants leaving Machineguns, Shotguns, or sometimes other weapons lying in the aftermath. This clears many of the Mobsters on the floor in the process. If Upper Crusters are caught in the crossfire of a shootout, they will often call more police to the scene, which makes it very unlikely for the Mobsters to survive.
  • NPCs will not mug players if they are considered to be Law Enforcement.
