Backstory
The Shapeshifter has been sent to Earth for the purpose of causing planet wide chaos. Unfortunately, the Shapeshifter's earthly appearance is that of a demonic-looking little naked person (it's just pink eye, OK?), which is not really ideal for functioning in society. Fortunately, the Possession Stone allows the ShapeShifter to hop into and out of people's bodies, making life on Earth a whole lot easier!

The Shapeshifter is a both an NPC and playable character in Streets of Rogue. He has red eyes and is the smallest of all the Characters.

The Shapeshifter can be unlocked by beating any level with 5 different Characters non-op Custom Characters included.

NPC[edit | edit source]

  • A single Shapeshifter may spawn as an NPC in a level. They hide within a body of a random person. Upon killing the possessed person, the Shapeshifter will pop out and run away. The Shapeshifter will always drop a very large amount of money when killed. With that said, you can easily find a shapeshifter by closely observing NPC's unusual eye color which is the same as a shapeshifter.
  • You could kill a shapeshifter for its money when needed, but be quick! As soon as the host died the little scoundrel will make a run for it and it'll be quite tricky to locate it once it escapes your field of view.

Tips and Strategies[edit | edit source]

For more in-depth tips, see Shapeshifter (Strategy)

  • How to fight: Unless you have a plan, never stay in your natural form for long. Cops will attack you on sight and your terrible stats and Diminutive make it really easy to die. The only good thing you can do in your natural form is run fast.
  • How to finish a mission: Possess gives you the widest range of options of any character class in how you can complete a mission. This limited only by what NPCs are on the level. Take the time to assess what the best way to complete each mission is and what NPCs can be Possessed to accomplish each.
  • Possess has no time limit. Possess someone as soon as possible and use it to scout the level for more potential hosts.
    • When you possess someone, you gain their Special Ability, Traits, stats, and their inventory is added to yours.
    • All of your positive (and any non-starting negative) traits are inherited by the host you possess while losing your Wanted, Diminutive, and Antisocial traits.
    • The hosts you possess will have low health (and can be allowed to reach low health frequently.) Your main form will also often be at low health when your possessed host dies. Therefore, Modern Warfarer, I'm Outtie, and Don't Make Me Angry are valuable traits for you.
    • Additionally, possessing someone will carry over all their relationships with them. You can walk freely through their building and can just ask for Items, Keys, and Safe Combinations. There are a number of other applications for this.
      • People's opinions of you are based on your current body, unless they see you switch forms. In which case, they become Annoyed. Therefore, if you offend someone you want to talk to, you can easily duck away, switch to a new body, and come back.
    • Using Possess will allow you to earn more experience than typical. For example:
      • if you possess a Crepe you gain bonus experience against Blahds using Blahd Basher. scientists get bonus exp vs gorillas etc
      • if you possess a Cop, you can Arrest Guilty people for bonus experience, this can also help you finish quests without killing anyone. you will lose experience as a cop if you do illegal things
  • If your host dies, you'll pop out a few moments later, having lost 15 health. This cannot kill you; you are guaranteed to survive the death of the body you're possessing (though whatever killed it may immediately kill your real body, of course.) Invisible and Invincible Syringes can be useful to escape in this situation.
  • Learning Class Solidarity will allow you to gain complete immunity to an entire class at will by possessing any one of them - for instance, you could possess a Goon to ignore someone's bodyguards. (It does have the drawback that you will be unable to use a body to attack another of the same class unless they are Hostile.)
  • Using a Friend Phone while possessing a host will summon new party members of the host's class.

Quotes[edit | edit source]

  • "That would be some kind of... possession-ception?" (When possessing while already possessing a Shapeshifter.)
  • "This person is too important to possess" (When trying to possess a mission target)

Notes[edit | edit source]

  • You will automatically leave your current, possessed body at the end of a level.
  • Leveling up will heal both your possessed body and your natural form.
  • You cannot possess NPCs that are mission targets or NPCs who are already possessed by another Shapeshiter.
    • This includes the Mayor since he's a mission target.

Trivia[edit | edit source]

  • The Shapeshifter had a different backstory that was changed during Early Access development:
    • The Shapeshifter has been sent to Earth from the heavens to clean up the mess caused by the Mayor.
      • The shapeshifter's old backstory is a reference to a video game Messiah. Both the main character of that game and the shapeshifter almost share similar gimmicks and both being able to possess NPCs.
