Backstory
Starting from nothing the humble Slum Dweller is willing to rise up to do whatever it takes to make it in this crazy world. This typically involves beating up random people for their cash, and scouring trash barrels for bacon cheesburgers. A true personification of the American dream!

The Slum Dweller is a both an NPC and playable character in Streets of Rogue. They wear ragged brown clothes and typically appear to be homeless.

NPC[edit | edit source]

Slum Dwellers are one of the most common NPCs you will find in runs during the early levels. They mostly populate the streets of each floor, but can occasionally be found within shelters. If interacted with, you can pay $20 for them to join you. While in your party, the Slum Dweller can also "Cause a Ruckus", distracting all nearby people. After about 8 seconds, they will leave your party.

If there's any Money dropped and left in the ground, the Slum Dwellers might pick them up.

Slum Dwellers become Loyal to you if you have the Friend of the Common Folk trait.

Tips and Strategies[edit | edit source]

  • Fighting Tactic #1: You can also start fights with other slum dwellers and trick them into hitting your target. This will anger the target so you can sit back and watch the two fight. Afterwards you can reap the benefits of loot drops.
  • How to fight: You don't really have much going for you in the beginning so use whatever and whoever is available to make fights easier. Scout out any objects or items you could use to your advantage before engaging in a large fight. As you gain levels and get more items, fighting will become easier.
  • How to finish a mission: You are probably going to have to fight to complete missions in the beginning. If a mission looks like it is too hard, try completing other missions first to gain more XP and items.
  • The Slum Dweller's playstyle is focused around becoming better by gaining levels. Having Potential To Not Suck and Jack of Extra Trades means you get a lot more out of leveling up than most classes.
  • Super Studious gives you a +50% bonus to all XP you earn. Try to gain as much XP as possible to maximize your level gains.
    • There are a lot of different XP bonuses for completing missions and levels. For example, taking a stealthy approach to completing missions can earn you an Alert No One XP bonus.
    • Try to spend exactly $50 on each floor towards your Big Quest, in order to gain the maximum XP. Spend more and you risk not being able to afford it on a later floor; don't spend and you miss out on the floor's XP.
    • Complete optional missions whenever possible for more XP.
    • Break as many objects as possible to earn Wanton Destruction for free XP. Just be careful about making the wrong person Hostile.
  • Use level-ups as a source of free healing - feel free to take risks when you're close to leveling up.

Trivia[edit | edit source]
