Pretty much the worst thief who has ever lived. Actually dresses in stereotypical burglar garb. Ridiculous. This was done out of tremendous insecurities -- they thought it would make them feel like more of a professional criminal. It didn't. Will the Thief ever conquer their imposter syndrome?
When walking past a Thief without having Honor Among Thieves, they may steal an item and run away, becoming Hostile. They will not leave the level however, and can be found and killed, although they will keep on running away which may make this difficult. In Downtown, they can jump out of Manholes, unless you have Honor Among Thieves. Once they jump out, they will attempt to steal an item and run away. Again, if you find and kill them, you can get your lost item back.
The Thief can steal from other NPCs as well. They will continue to run away from everyone, including you, for the duration of the level.
You can hire thieves to open a Door or break a Window. They will leave your party after being done with this task however. There is also a bug where they will not open Steel doors.
How to fight: You have average attack stats and low health as a Thief, so be cautious. The whole point of playing a Thief is not to get caught or seen. If you do need to kill somebody, try to ambush and overwhelm them with attacks before they can fight back.
How to finish a mission: Your thief equipment will make retrieval missions very easy but make sure consider your options for each mission carefully. You only have so many uses of your thief equipment after all. Try to avoid and reduce combat as much as possible. Look for alternate ways to complete missions instead of the normal "kill everything" approach.
As a Thief, you are heavily reliant on your starting items. If you run out, you should look for either another Thief to buy items from (Thanks to Honor Among Thieves), or buy them from a Loadout-O-Matic.
Sticky Glove lets you steal from strangers on the streets for Money and various items. It's in your best interest to rob everyone you can.
Your Cardboard Box allows you to move through cameras' lines of sight without setting off their alarms. Usually you should use it to move around hideouts
If you do happen to be spotted under a Cardboard Box, take it off as quickly as possible, even if it means getting spotted by a camera. If the hostile NPC uncovers you, a cardboard box is permanently lost from your inventory
NPC Thieves are most common in the Slums and Industrial zones, non-existent in the Park, and rare in Downtown and Uptown. Make sure to stock up on extra thief equipment early!
Loneliness Killer is a really good trait for the Thief as it will give you a shop every floor and a free lockpick or window cutter.
