The Upper-Cruster is a character that appears in Downtown and in Uptown. They are similar to Slum Dwellers; they are the common citizens of Downtown and Uptown.

To play as the Upper-Cruster from the start, complete the Slum Dweller's Big Quest and enable the Super Special Abilities mutator. Slum Dwellers will become Upper-Crusters in Mayor Village if they complete their Big Quest.

NPC Behavior[ | ]

  • The Upper-Cruster is one of two NPCs in the game that always run from conflict instead of fighting back. They will flee to the nearest Alarm Button and will press it to summon a Supercop, so be careful to avoid angering Upper-Crusters unless you need to.
  • Some Upper-Crusters may spawn with a Slave companion. Neutralizing the Upper-Cruster will free the Slave.
  • You cannot interact with them unless
    • The Upper-Cruster is a mission target
    • The Upper-Cruster is a vendor
    • You have Serve Drinks.
    • You have Mugger.

Quotes[ | ]

  • "Why do people work all day when the butler brings you everything?"
  • "Oh those flies buzzing 'round your head... How quaint!"
  • "I don't understand why the poor can't just eat the other poor!"
  • "Settle a bet for me: Is 'budget' a real word?"

Tips and Strategies[ | ]

NPC[ | ]

  • If you have made an Upper-Cruster Hostile towards you, It's highly recommended that you kill them before they reach an Alarm Button, or disable Police Boxes and Alarm Buttons nearby with a Wrench or an EMP. Fighting a Supercop is much harder than fighting the Upper-Cruster.
    • Random Reverence+ can save you, as the Upper-Cruster may summon an Aligned Supercop, allowing you to safely kill the Upper-Cruster with the help of the Supercop.
  • Upper-Crusters have 3 Endurance and 3 Speed, making them surprisingly durable and fast. They can outrun most other characters, so they will often make it to the Alarm Button unless taken out quickly.
  • Upper-Crusters summon a Supercop against anyone they are Hostile toward, not just a player. You can take advantage of this by using Haterators, Hologram Bigfoots, or any other method of provoking in-fighting; simply putting an Upper-Cruster between you and an enemy can result in them being hit and running to an Alarm Button.

Playable[ | ]

  • As an Upper-Cruster, you cannot be deported in Uptown. You have three Alarm Button presses per floor before the Supercops will begin ignoring you, and all Law Enforcement NPCs will be Loyal to you - if you are attacked in front of them, they will help you.
  • Upper-Crusters have low Melee and Firearms stats, so they aren't very good at fighting; if you must fight, use guns, since your high Speed allows you to stay away from many enemies. You will likely to lose in fights to tougher foes, but like the Slum Dweller you have the Potential To Not Suck - depending on your luck, an Upper-Cruster may become an acceptable or even good fighter later in the run.
  • During fights, its best you have ATMs with heavily modified guns, most specifically the Accuracy Mod, this can be a bit useful in gunfights to compensate.
