Backstory
"The Zombie doesn't actually want to eat people's brains. I mean that's pretty gross. However, society expects it. Society also demands that "normies" try to stab Zombies in the head with an axe. It's a vicious cycle. Zombies also wish that they were cool enough to hang out with Vampires -- but as everyone knows, Vampires can be pretty aloof!"

The Zombie is an NPC and playable character. Player zombies and zombies spawned at the start of a floor have the appearance of a zombified Slum Dweller, with green skin and yellow eyes; characters raised as zombies after death retain their class's appearance, but with green skin and yellow eyes.

The Zombie can be unlocked by beating the Slums with the Vampire.

NPC[ | ]

Zombies occasionally spawn inside cages in science labs and always spawn inside one cage in Uptown Zoos.

Zombies spawn in the Zombie Invasion disaster and appear in small groups. If a Zombie hits an NPC, that NPC is infected and once that NPC dies in any way, they will turn into a Zombie after 3 seconds. Once zombified, the NPC will continue to wander around, attacking all infectable NPCs on sight. If an NPC is hit by Zombie Phlegm before death, they will be Aligned with the player Zombie that spat upon them after turning (as opposed to being Neutral).

Unless a Zombie is Aligned with you, it will still attack all infectable NPCs on sight. Most NPCs run away from Zombies they encounter, but they may fight back if the Zombie is worse equipped or low on health (with the exception of Ghosts).

Special Ability Traits[ | ]

Super Special Ability[ | ]

  • All Zombies (not just the player) are stronger and faster.
  • Zombie Phlegm charges quicker and costs no health.

Tips and Strategies[ | ]

For more in-depth for fighting the Zombies, see: Zombies (Disaster)

  • How to fight: When it comes to Zombies, there is strength in numbers. Try getting a horde up and running as soon as possible. You are slow and not very durable, but you do have good Melee skill. While you can't use projectile weapons due to Stubby Fingers, you can still use thrown items like Rocks and Grenades.
  • How to finish a mission: You have to fight, there is almost no other way to complete missions. Use other Zombies whenever possible to weaken and/or kill targets. For example, if you need to retrieve an item from a Shopkeeper, you can just chase them out of their store and into the zombie infested streets to let the ever-growing horde take care of them.
  • Flesh Feast can be used as a way to recover health, but remember that most NPCs retaliate - you could lose more than you gain if you are not careful.
  • Zombie Phlegm costs health, so use it carefully. It's best used at medium to close range.
  • Before moving on to the next level, try using Zombie Phlegm to acquire Aligned Zombies. You'll have to create an entire new horde on the next floor, so you should try to get as much help as you can.
  • Downtown and Uptown are extremely difficult areas for Zombies. Mobster, Supercop, and Cop Bot NPCs are heavily armed and can easily kill your Zombies without much trouble. It's better to finish these floors as soon as possible to avoid a massive firefight with them. Use the items you have been collecting up until this point wisely.
  • Thanks to Fair Game, almost every NPC will run away from you on sight. NPCs in houses will simply leave after they answer the door, and Shopkeepers and Bartenders will flee their stores, even if armed. Do not attack fleeing NPCs unless you want a fight.
  • If you turn a Shopkeeper or Bartender into a Zombie, you can speak with them to purchase items. If they become your follower, you will no longer be able to buy items after leaving the level you recruited them on. Upper-Crusters and Thieves will also sell you weapons and thief equipment.
  • It is recommended to hit vendors with your phlegm so they will be aligned once they become a zombie, as aligned vendors give you a discount.
  • If you find yourself amassing a large amount of money but have nothing to spend it on, remember that you can use the Goodie Dispenser to acquire helpful items. You can even use the Augmentation Booth to upgrade your traits like Flesh Feast or remove unwanted traits like Stubby Fingers.
  • Despite having the Vocally Challenged trait, optional mission quest givers can still be talked to. Quest givers are the only non-zombie NPCs that aren't afraid of you, so if the quest giver happens to be a merchant like a Drug Dealer, you can purchase items from them without turning them into a Zombie.
  • Its best to have traits that are good that when you have followers, follower amount dependant traits like Confident in Crowds and Safe in Crowds can be really useful when getting followers and encourage you with more followers meaning your character is better while follower buffs like Share the Health and Infectious Spirit allows your followers to be slightly tougher and more likely to survive.
  • You can kill as many NPCs as possible and turn them into zombies if you want to increase your Electability, but it is risky so make sure you have a large group of armed zombies to keep yourself safe.
  • Despite naturally earning a high Electability as a result of turning NPCs into Zombies, the Zombie is one of the most difficult classes to achieve a Legal Takeover with, as the Clerk who must be spoken to in order to begin the Election process will flee unless Aligned, cannot be spoken to unless the player either holds a Translator or removes the Vocally Challenged trait, and must remain alive until the player has won the election, as the option is not available when the Clerk is zombified. Additionally, the player must avoid creating unaligned Zombies in order to avoid them killing the Clerk, and have the Mayor's guard the Mayor themselves and any bystanders Aligned with the player, to avoid them becoming Hostile on sight to the player and by extension the Aligned Clerk.
